If you believe that people ever truly get over abuse/trauma you need to change your mindset.
Yeah, life goes on, things get better, you move on and you find ways to cope with what happened to you. That doesn’t mean that you’re over it.
Maybe you can go weeks, months, maybe well over a year, without it affecting you. But one day, one small thing will crop up. You’ll see someone who could be them. Someone says something in a tone a little too like that. A car drives by you a little too close. You hear something go bang. Or maybe you’re just having a really bad and down day.
And you’re back there. You’re drowning in a moment that’s long gone.
You aren’t the same person before and after being abused/traumatised. Everything you are after what happened to you is who you have become in order to keep on living with what happened to you.
